Description

Corgi Toys Dinky Toys Restoration Base Plate Screws x 4 Suit 1:43 Scale Models.
Suits many Corgi and Dinky Toys models. Larger Trucks, Light Commercials, Batmobile and similar TV Themed models. Also suits other 1:43 scale makers, Tekno, Matchbox King Size, Triang Spot-On, etc.
Screws similar to this were fitted to a lot of later issue Dinky Toys models. Similarly they can be retro fitted to a lot of models and are particularly useful when trying to remount a base plate on a model with lots of internal works like many of the TV Show themed models.
The original models mostly have an upper body casting with 2 or more posts which extend through the base plate of the model. When attaching the base in the factory a machine would round down the pillars to form a head which held the base plate. For restoration projects you will need to drill out the head of the post. To re-attach the base after restoring the model, drill into the post, taking care that some of the posts will be hollow, do not drill too deep! This will create a hole to insert our screws. Clamp the upper casting and the base with a slide clamp. The screws should effectively self-tap into the softer die-cast material.
Take a screw and check it will fit in the hole. If it is too big either increase the hole diameter or shave some of the metal off the rivet post. Test again for each of the other post holes. If glue is needed, we recommend using a 2-part epoxy 5-minute glue in a very small quantity. Mix it up with a toothpick on an off-cut of cardboard. Use the toothpick to insert the glue in the post hole. Insert each of the rivets to their relevant post holes, removing any excess glue. Place the toothpick in the excess glue on the cardboard. Leave it all sit for 10 minutes or more. This will allow the glue to cure both in the model and on the cardboard. To check the glue is set, check the toothpick on the cardboard. If your glue mix is correct the toothpick will be stuck.
