A reproduction Triang Spot-On Large Truck Rear Double Wheel Axle Set.

This is a pair of double width tyre and wheel hubs and an axle in a set for your toy restoration project.

You will need to prepare the wheel hub and tyre in two steps. First, assembly the tyre to the hub. Use a bench vice and insert the outside face of the wheel hub partially into the wider opening on the tyre. Squeezing the hub into the tyre the wheel hub ridge should pass through the narrower front diameter. Take it slowly and check the alighment to keep both tyre and hub consistent. You may find that a drop of detergent helps as a lubricant.

Next, ensure axle alignment by checking the axle hole for centre alignment. The casting method does not provide a good alignment. Use a bench-press drill to ensure vertical and drill to align. Monitor depth so you do not pierce the cast hub. Prepare 2-part epoxy glue to assemble and use the bench-press drill to help align the axle to vertical for the first hub. When dry place the first hub and axle into the model, apply glue to the second hub. Add the hub to the model and place with the second wheel hub on the work-surface so that the truck and the axle aid in keeping the second hub aligned.

This double width wheel hub set suits most of the large Spot-On trucks.

The articulated trucks, like the 106 Austin, 111 Ford Thames, or 158 Tanker, use the single width wheel on the front cab axle only. The second axle of the cab uses the double width wheel.

The rigid body trucks, like the 109 ERF and the 110 AEC tankers and trucks have 4 of the double width wheels on the rear two axles.

The double width wheel are also used on the 156 Mulliner Coach and the 117 Jones Crane rear axles. The 4-wheel lorry trailer uses 4 of the single width wheels on the two axles.
