Matchbox King Size K8a Scammell Low Loader Decals

The Matchbox King Size K8a Scammell Low Loader Decals vary across the various issues of the model. This model has the LAING branding and a Caterpillar (K-3 without a blade) on the trailer.

The earliest issue is in a D-style sliding tray box. The model and trailer feature metal wheels. The door decals are a simple white square with text and are placed at the lower edge of the door outline. The rear sides of the Scammell feature a black border around a yellow background and LAING black text in the panel centre(ish). The trailer is similarly bordered with LAING black text in the centre between the wheel arches. The overall decal is long extending from in front of the front wheel and continuing the behind the rear wheel. This edition has the words CIVIL ENGINEERING CONTRACTORS in red in smaller text either side of the word LAING. The D-style box art-work features this decal style.

Also found in the same D-style box is the second issue of the decals with the red trailer text removed and the trailer decal length shortened. The length of the trailer decals starts at the forward axle line through to the mid-point between the two rear axles. The Scammell side panels are the same but the door decals are now rectangular with top corner cut-outs for the door handle. The door decals are now given a black border for the white background.

An art-work update to the D-style box shows the second issue decal style. However, the models appear to be inconsistent with some cross-over of the box artwork and the decal artwork.

Later issues were in the E-style box. The artwork here showing the minor changes to the decals with the trailer decal length shorter again with only a slight overlap with the wheels at the front and the forward rear axle.

The LAING lettering increased in thickness (weight) on most of the later decals. The earlier issues all appear to have the LAING text in a relatively thin or regular font.
